On this trip to Thailand and Japan I stayed at Hyatt hotels to add to the number of credited nights in the World of Hyatt guest program.  (Little did I know how coronavirus would shut down travel, or that Hyatt would automatically extend status earned in 2019 through 2021.)  The goal was 60 nights by the end of the year to attain Hyatt Globalist.  Of the programs I’m familiar with, Marriott, Hilton, IHG (Holiday Inn), and Hyatt, Globalist has the best features and benefits.

The Hyatt Regency Osaka is a four star+  hotel overlooking Osaka Bay.  It has 480 rooms.  Only 10 are suites.  Check in for Hyatt Explorists, my status, and Globalists is in the Regency Club on the 28th floor.  Two representatives are usually on duty so there should be no waiting.  The rep assigned a room and described various features of the hotel and the operating hours and services of the Regency Club lounge.

I used a Club Access Award with this stay.  I earned four of these awards by staying 30 nights in Hyatt properties in 2019.  One Club Access Award permits access to a club lounge on any night during a stay where the member pays with cash or points.

The hotel supplies an array of items such as dental and shaving kits, bath products, and other personal amenities.

Japanese high-tech toilets are a treat, especially the heated seats.

The room was exceptionally nice.  Amenities not pictured are minibar and daily newspaper on request.  I would have preferred a king or queen bed but wasn’t complaining.

Club Lounge

The Regency Club  was the hotel feature I used and liked the most.  The Club Access Award provided great value as I ate breakfast and enjoyed evening food and beverages each day.

The breakfast buffet includes pastries, fruit, cheese, cereal, juice, breakfast beverages, and eggs cooked to order.

Tea service is available all day.  An evening buffet of snacks, salads, sushi, appetizers, cocktails, wine and beer served as my dinner.  The buffet is open from 17:30 to 19:30 daily.

The lounge offers a “night cap” service from 20:30 to 22:30 with cheese, light snacks and cognac.

Other restaurants are available in the hotel.  There aren’t many places to eat outside the hotel nearby.

Location

The hotel is situated on a small island in Osaka Bay.  The hotel operates a shuttle bus every 30 minutes to Osaka Station in the central business district where many good restaurants and local attractions are found.  The ride normally takes 25 minutes.

Other interesting and historical cities are within easy reach.  Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara are within 60 – 90 minutes from the hotel by rail.

Business travelers may like this location because the Osaka exhibition hall, Asia Pacific Trade Center and Osaka Prefecture Government building are adjacent to the hotel.

Other Features and Services

The hotel devotes a large amount of space to weddings and wedding services.  It can accomodate ceremonies for up to 1,400 guests.  The hotel offers services from planning to catering to outfitting the wedding party.

The hotel spa and fitness center are part of an “urban country club” available to those working in the area as well as hotel guests.

This is the layout of the hotel’s public areas.  Having a Lawson’s convenience store on site was very helpful.

Overall Impression

I very much enjoyed the Hyatt Regency Osaka.  The food and beverages in the Club Lounge provided outstanding value, and the lounge was also a good place to work.  The room was perfect for my needs.  Staff at the lounge reception desk were very knowledgeable and helpful with all questions about the area.

Would I stay here again?  If Osaka itself was the main reason for the stay, I would choose a hotel in the central business district next time.  But for anyone using Osaka as a base to explore nearby Kobe, Kyoto, and/or Nara as well as Osaka, the Hyatt Regency Osaka is a good place to stay.
