I offer much thanks to Carl Batnag, author of The Pine-Scented Chronicles, for this Mystery Blogger Award nomination. 😄 An insatiable reader, Carl is a full-time, certified public accountant who makes time to share his perspective on his passion for reading, travel, and mountain climbing. I congratulate him on creating an outstanding blog and his recent five-year blogging anniversary. I humbly accept his nomination.

The Mystery Blogger Award was created by Okoto @OkotoEnigmasBlog to recognize “amazing blogs that haven’t been discovered” yet. It is the original creator’s aim, through this award nomination, to “create a friendly community and build a link between bloggers in the blogosphere; as everyone gets nominated and they too can spread the fun by nominating more people for the award.”

- Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
- Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
- Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
- You have to nominate 10 – 20 people
- Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
- Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
- Share a link to your best post(s)
Three Things About Me
- I’m a “young” retiree, meaning I’m younger today than I will be in five years. Ha ha! Of course that assumes the pandemic or unforeseen circumstances don’t spoil my plans.
- I played tennis on my college team, but my best tennis by far was when I was in law school and not on a team. I haven’t picked up a racket in decades as getting worse was extremely frustrating. At my advanced age, I’m thinking of trying it again. I’m bad enough now that improving will be a cinch.
- Covid -19 has destroyed my favorite activities – traveling, getting together with friends and family, social dancing, and going to movies.
Questions Presented
- What is your most embarrassing blogging moment? There are many to choose from. My most embarrassing blog post was about a trip to Bali, Indonesia when I lost track of the days (drugs or alcohol weren’t involved😄 ) and missed my return flight. Rebooking cost me $900. Ouch!!! Now I’m embarrassed again.
- What are the first three things you are going to do once the pandemic is over and all restrictions are lifted? Travel, see friends and family, go to movies.
- If you were given the opportunity to meet a famous personality, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you talk about? Tough question. I would say Neil Armstrong who I actually met many times and worked with to a minor extent when he served on the board of directors of the company were I was employed. Armstrong was famously very private and guarded. I’d love to have conversations about his career as a naval aviator, test pilot, astronaut and professor and of course the Apollo 11 mission which made him the first human to set foot on a celestial bosy other than Earth.
- Would you rather have a teleportation machine or a time travelling machine? Why? A time machine offers way more possibilities! I love history and am very curious about the future. A time machine cheats death. Plus from a philosophical viewpoint, I’m unconvinced that the person who teleports is the same person who materializes at the destination.
- Which movie or literary character do you most strongly identify with? Another tough question.

When it comes to awards, I usually nominate everyone. Never know who to tag.
What I do after the pandemic= what I do depends on when it ends. Hopefully in time of Hadestown- that musical is coming October of 2021. So hoping that is enough time- going to musicals is one of the most frustrating things that the pandemic put on hold

Congrats on your award! All ya answers are awesome and it must have been real nice to work with Neil Armstrong.

Meeting and working with Armstrong was one of the highlights of my life. I talked with him a bit about aviation but never brought up the moon landing or other space flights. I didn’t want to risk offending a board member. Maybe I should have been more daring. Thank you for your comment and following my blog. I am also following your posts.

Armstrong was notoriously private, but you couldn’t find a nicer person than him not to mention being a great pilot and engineer. NASA made a great choice picking him to be first.

By the way, is it just me or did you link your favorite posts to the WordPress reader?

All of my posts should be on the WP reader. Were you unable to find them?

I mean that the links seem to be pointing to https://wordpress.com/post/salsaworldtraveler.com/18438 instead of https;//salsaworldtraveler.com . Could you confirm this?

OK. I give up. 😕 Should it be something else??? Thanks.

The first link is fine (point to machu pichu trip report), but the second link points to https://wordpress.com/post/salsaworldtraveler.com/47805 and you should be pointing it to your website https://salsaworldtraveler.com/2018/10/16/everest-base-camp-tibet-fall-2018-trip-report/ (notice that the first link starts with wordpress .com), you’ve made the same mistake with the links that follow 😉

Okay got it. Fixed now. Thanks. I’ll remember this for the next time someone asks for my most embarrassing blogging moment. 🤣

Don’t sweat it, to err is human. By the way, have you ever considered optimizing your internal link structure? There are lots of links on top of your page that would better be fit on a secondary access page, and you have a ton of extensive articles that are completely devoid of internal links. How much traffic do you get from the search engines right now?

My search engine traffic, which wasn’t much, dropped off substantially several months ago.

I suspect it has something to do with the coronavirus epidemic. Google’s latest algorithm update completely changed the search engine result pages, which paralyzed many industries while new search intent became apparent. Once airlines will be operating again your search engine traffic will likely return. How much was the drop in %?
LikeLike
The drop looks like as much as 75%.

That’s a big reduction although similar to what I’ve seen with some other sites.. I would love to hear from you if and when it goes up again, just so I can compare it with other sites that have dropped recently.

Will do… if and when.

Adding a few posts about what is currently being done to get flights ready for service under the new circumstances (installation of air-filters, frequent disinfection after each flight, deep-cleaning at night etc. will serve search intend and therefore improve SEO. While it may not get you back all your traffic you will likely see an improvement. Just an idea… 😉

It almost seems as if Google treats those of us who don’t mention the coronavirus frequently as if they are from another planet and not worthy of attention. Hope you get your traffic back soon!
