Although I don’t mind turbulence, night flights are fun because the lack of sun-induced atmospheric convection often improves visibility and makes the ride smoother than the smoothest road you can imagine. Experiencing travel withdrawal this evening, a night departure from Newark Liberty International (EWR) to Hong Kong (HKG) came to mind.
That Cathay Pacific 777-300 flight afforded memorable views of Manhattan Island as it flew up the Hudson River.
Recalling that flight is refreshing. Perhaps you recall a favorite night flight.
Cheers!
an overnight flight from New York to London a couple of years ago – a storm was just beginning, and we were the last plane to take-off that night. it was nice arriving in London in the middle of the morning…

I hope that ride wasn’t rough. Its good your flight was able to go. An overnight flight from New York to London works out well if you can get some sleep onboard. Jet lag is minimized. Still losing 5 or 6 hours out of a day is tough. If you have a good tail wind, the flight is not much longer than JFK to LAX.

it was a relatively brief flight; certainly compared to getting to Doha!

When I flew to NYC one of my first times it was nighttime and I looked out the window and we were very close to landing, but all I saw was water below me 😅 but alas that is normal at LaGuardia!

NYC at night can be spectacular from the air! The rivers and other features are great landmarks. At times I have had some good views departing from LaGuardia and JFK, but depending on the route, Newark’s proximity to Manhattan may provide the best shot at great views. It is always fun to look at your hometown from the air. I bet you will have many more opportunities.

This looks magical. Absolutely starry from another perspective.
Most of my travel was by day but this poses new adventurous thoughts,

It would be nice to have a real camera rather than a cell phone.😄 I’m glad the feeling still came through.

Wow! You are very fortunate. I really would have loved to fly on the Concorde. You flew faster than twice the speed of sound. How was the experience.

I remember a night flight I took about 2 years ago, I do miss it but definitely don’t miss the 14 hours I was on the plane 😅😅

Long flights can be a draining even with good visibility and and a smooth ride. This flight was almost 16 hours. I used American Airlines miles to book business class on this trip. A lie-flat seat makes a huge difference. Thanks for your comment.
