If you are going to be flying to or through Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC) expect a new and much improved experience. On September 15, 2020, the first phase of a complete airport makeover concluded with the opening of new Concourse A. On that date, Delta Air Lines Flight 2020 became the first flight to depart Salt Lake City’s new airport terminal. The new airport will be complete when new Concourse B opens on October 27, 2020.

Architectural design and artwork reflect Utah’s natural beauty and diversity. The Falls, an 80-foot sculpture of light-refracting glass, is a representation of a canyon waterfall.
The Canyon is a football-field sized work that evokes the slot canyons of southern Utah.
Below is a diagram of the new SLC. New Concourses A and B are connected by an underground tunnel. Concourses C, F and G will be demolished. The runway complex is unchanged.
SLC is Delta’s fourth largest hub. Delta will occupy all 25 gates in Concourse A, including six international gates. Delta plans to add nonstop (no such thing actually) service to Asia to complement its existing nonstop service between SLC and Europe. In six weeks, Concourse B will open with 20 gates for Alaska, American, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United.
Delta flyers will love the new Skyclub. At just over 28,000 square feet, this two-level lounge is Delta’s largest Skyclub. It offers outstanding features like a fireplace and an outside viewing deck.
Final Thoughts
Those who have traveled to some of the outstanding new airports throughout the world know that the U.S. is comparatively airport-challenged. The new Salt Lake City airport is one of several ongoing or planned airport projects that are slowly improving that picture. Once flying returns to normal, I will make an effort to see the new SLC. I used to fly through SLC several years ago when I was a Delta frequent flyer. I agree about the the need for a major update. The new terminals look wonderful. It would enjoy seeing it in person.

From the look of things, it seems Delta is usually the first to participate in the big gigs. This airport is definitely going to improve tourism in the area.

Good observation. Delta runs rings around its main competition, American and United, in terms of operational performance and strategy. I wish it ran a better frequent flyer program.

From what I’ve seen of the photos and videos, Salt Lake City now has one of the best airports in the country. Changi Airport has nothing to worry about though.

You should visit. SLC is a great city surrounded by beautiful terrain. I’ve been to the old one several times. It was a typically unpleasant U.S. airport experience. I can’t wait to see the new one.

Sounds good. I can relate to it: when I had gone to NY some years back I was a little surprised at the look and feel of the airport.
Airports in India used to be awful but all this has changed in the last decade or so.

The New York airports (LaGuardia and JFK) were some of the worst. There are plans to improve them. You will see a big difference in a few years.
