While visiting Kruger National Park in 2017 I stayed at Thornhill Safari Lodge in the Guernsey Nature Reserve which is adjacent to Kruger. An experienced guide led me on a walking safari outside the lodge. The safari began in the pre-dawn darkness of a cold June morning.
Almost Wordless Wednesday – Dawn Foot Safari at Thornhill Safari Lodge, South Africa

Cool! Did you get to see the ostrich running? 🙂

I saw several ostriches. We couldn’t get very close. They only had to move at what seemed to be a slow trot for them to quickly get away. That trot was faster than a human running at full speed. 😄

It was really cool to walk with giraffes and zebras. Ostriches would take off at an easy trot that is faster than a sprinter.

Giraffes would let us get within 15 feet in the dark. Not as close after sunrise. They only need to take two or three long slow strides to move off to a comfortable distance for them.

I don’t they are aggressive either, are they?

Giraffes were very calm in our presence. The guide thought there was no danger.
