Michelangelo’s Pietà is one of the most famous sculptures ever created. It depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. The Pietà occupies a privileged location just right of the entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.
I took this photo on a trip to Rome in 2007.
I saw the Pietà for the first time in 1964 at the Vatican’s pavilion at the New York World’s Fair.
The Pietà is Michelangelo’s only work that bears his signature, allegedly because he overheard some one attributing the work to another artist.

I love this sculpture! I´ve seen La Pietà several times over the years. I adore Rome and I´ve been there quite a few times. I always try to pay a visit to the Vatican just to see this sculpture. I also adore The Moses sculpture, located in San Pietro in Vincoli, probably even more so than The Pietà.
