The Biltmore House is the largest privately owned home in the United States. It was built on the estate of George Vanderbilt II in Asheville, NC between 1889 and 1895. The home has 178,926 square feet (16,622.8 m2) of floor space. It remains in the hands of the Vanderbilt family but presently serves as a museum open to the public.
