The Biltmore House is the largest privately owned home in the United States. It was built on the estate of George Vanderbilt II in Asheville, NC between 1889 and 1895. The home has 178,926 square feet (16,622.8 m2) of floor space. It remains in the hands of the Vanderbilt family but presently serves as a museum open to the public.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to live in a house like that. I’ve always enjoyed visiting mansions or historic homes like this that are turned into a museum and you are able to get a glimpse into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. This reminds me of the Newport mansions in Rhode Island.

Even after touring Biltmore House I still can’t imagine what it was like living there but it was fun trying. 😃 I’d love to see the mansions in Newport. The Vanderbilts built a huge home there, the Breakers, at the same time as Biltmore House. It is also a museum open to the public. There’s rich, and then there’s ridiculously rich, lol.
