Today, Joseph R. Biden and Kamala D. Harris became President and Vice President of the United States of America! Their inauguration produced personal feelings of joy and relief that is hard to put into words.
It feels as if the country is turning the page on the post traumatic stress generated by the chaos of the last four years, the last two months since the election, and the last two weeks since the assault on the Capitol and the foundation of our democracy.
The pandemic made it impossible to hold the traditional inaugural balls this year. So the inaugural committee produced a made-for-TV concert, Celebrating America, that was filled with musical performances by a wide variety of artists. Jon Bon Jovi’s performed the Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun. Its simple lyrics express my thoughts and emotions on this inauguration day.
Here comes the sun do, do, do
Here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun do, do, do
Here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun do, do, do
Here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the sun do, do, do
Here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Here comes the sun do, do, do
Here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Final Thoughts
While America has many challenges ahead, one thing good about being sick is when you feel normal again it is such a blessing. Thank you for visiting. What are your thoughts about America’s prospects?

Great choice of song. I hesitate to be overly optimistic, but it seems it can only get better after hitting rock bottom.

Definitely more problems ahead. Leadership matters though.

I shed many tears of joy yesterday. The assertive message from the new President was one reason. Amanda Gorman’s reading was another. It’s wonderful to have mature adults in charge again.

Amanda Gorman is spectacularly impressive. We need adults because things will be difficult for the country for some time.

Words have consequences. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cringed in embarrassment over the last four years.

Words led to the shocking event of January 6. Twitter should have acted sooner.

We have a qualified adult in The White House for the first time in four years and a real First Lady.

Agreed. And someone who draws strength from uniting the country not dividing it.

Unfortunately we are going down a dangerous road toward Social even Communist times. I am afraid for my Country.

I was afraid for our country when the Capitol was assaulted by people who had been told the election (actually only Trump’s election) was stolen. The same people who felt it was in their self interest to make that false claim are also doing a good job of scaring people with the words “radical socialism” and “communism.”
Conservatives claimed that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a communist. Of course he wasn’t. But those who were perfectly happy with segregation and discrimination used that label to make people even more afraid than they already were. Thanks for expressing your thoughts .
