This week presents a statue of General Makura, one of 12 Divine Generals who serve as protective deities for the Buddha of healing. This statue is located on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island. The 12 Divine Generals line the path to Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha).

Each general represents one Chinese zodiac sign and two hours of the day. General Makura stands for the rabbit and 05:00 – 07:00. I don’t know if there is a specific reason for choosing him to represent that sign and time of day.
Sculpture Saturday is a challenge hosted by Susan Kelly at No Fixed Plans.

He looks very angry though😊

Don’t mess with an angry general with an axe!

I’ve been to Lantau Island and enjoyed walking up to the temple.
I wouldn’t mess with General Makura. I would want him protecting me.

that looks like it would be an enjoyable walk along the path to see each of the statues…

Welcome back, Jim! Hope you are doing well. The walk to the monastery and big buddha is impressive. The generals are very fierce looking.

thanks, John. I am feeling much better. I thought the statue looked pretty intimidating just from the photo…

Strange how the body reacts to certain conditions. A swollen tongue and a torn artery seem totally unrelated.

I guess the nerve for the tongue passes right over that artery..
