Standing on the south side of Teatralnaya Ploschad in Moscow, Russia is a statue to the founder of Communism – Karl Marx.
A determined Marx emerges from a block of solid granite. The pedestal is engraved with the phrase “Workers of the World, Unite!”. The statue was unveiled in 1961. Sculptor Lev Kerbel earned the Lenin Prize for this work of art.
Sculpture Saturday is a challenge hosted by Susan Kelly at No Fixed Plans.

Nice statue. I hope one day I could go there. Two years ago when I was walking in Hanoi, I came across a statue of Lenin… A visit to a Marx’s statue will complete my adventure. 😀

Good eye, Andy! The statue reminded me of someone but couldn’t think who it was.

It sort of look like the sculptor decided not to stop halfway through the project. 😊

Wondering if he got tired. Or shipped off to a prison. I’m currently reading a fascinating memoir called Journey into the Whirlwind by a woman who served 10 years in a Russian prison as a political enemy. It’s a page turner that’s deepening my understanding of the USSR in the 30s and 40s.

Got it. One reader thinks Marx looks like Santa Claus. The statue reminded me of someone but I couldn’t put my finger on who. I think he’s right. 😄
