This is the first time I’ve joined the weekly Lens Artists Challenge. This week the subject is “shades and shadows.” I’m using photos from a sightseeing flight in the Alaska Range in May 2021 and a photo from a 2014 trip to the summit of Mauna Kea volcano on the big island of Hawaii.

Flying right seat in a de Haviland Canada DHC-3 Otter on the sightseeing flight to Denali.

Fifty (or so) shades of gray at 13,800 ft (4,206 m) on Mauna Kea. I can’t believe people packed winter parkas on a trip to Hawaii.

On the same flight the shadow of the de Haviland Otter on cloud tops centered in the glory of multiple circular rainbows.

This was a fun challenge. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for upcoming ones.
