Now you’ve brought back some memories! My mom, a few aunts and my grandma each had one … when I was a little girl, my mom would sometimes gave me a piece of material to “sew” and I would make (imaginary) dresses for my dolls ☺️. Ah, thanks for the memory!
My mom had one like that too! In my memory, I can still hear the distinct sound of the machine when she sewed! She kept it until she died in 2015. What happened to it, I don’t know!
We still have one at home. It’s such a favorite of mine

The design of the machine was sleek and sculptured, and usually it was seated in a beautifully carved table/stand. Yes, powered by a foot pedal.

Ha ha! A work of art, that in the right hands could create other works of fashion art.

My mother would buy dress patterns and material and she made a lot of her clothes.

They are neat machines. I saw this one on the street in Pretoria, SA. It was still being used.

if it works, why not use it!

Yes. The old machines probably work as good as the new ones only without fancy bells and whistles.

I would not be good with old or new; I’ve never learned to sew…

I also liked the sound these machines made. I think it was powered by a foot pedal.
