Once again Sculpture Saturday finds us back at the Wild Art collection of the North Carolina Arboretum near Asheville, NC. Sanctuary is a work by John M. Almaguer and Julia C. Burr constructed of untreated mild steel and sculpted blown glass.
The artists note that their intent is to use the animal world for inspiration and to honor their belief in John Mangelsen’s statement that “being immersed in nature is a humbling and spiritual experience…” That thought also ties in nicely to my recent post about the Iñupiat experience hunting the bowhead whale in Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska.
Thanks for dropping by, and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Sculpture Saturday is a challenge hosted by Susan Kelly at No Fixed Plans.

How I wish I could visit these places. Looks wonderful.

Nice sanctuary. I looks so natural I thought it was built by a creature other than human.

Glad you liked it. B/t/w I wanted to let you know I have a weird problem reading your blog when I visit your site. It just developed a couple of weeks ago. Scrolling down the page, each line gets shorter and shorter until a line is only one letter long, which makes it almost impossible to read. You don’t need to do anything because it must be a problem with my computer and WP. So far your site is the only one the problem affects. Your posts are fine when I view in Reader. Big mystery.

thanks for the info about my blog. is it the blog post, or just the comments? and is it while using a phone to read?

My problem affects the whole post. By the time I scroll down to comments, the lines are down to about one letter.
Aha! I think I just realized what the problem is. For some reason the zoom setting changed to 500% on its own. If I reduce the zoom setting the post is fine!!! 😃 I should have thought of that earlier.

hmmm… it looks the same way on my phone sometimes with the comments; I am not sure what that happens. thanks again for letting me know, John!

The problem I was having was on my laptop. I hardly ever use my phone to read other’s posts which is probably unusual.

I’ve never seen anything like this. It looks like it is part of nature, i.e. something a bird or animal made. Thanks for participating.

It does look very natural. I wonder if birds or animals might try adopting it as their home.
