I love Istanbul. We lived there for 6 months before coming to Norway in 1987. Later when I worked as freelance journalist I revisited the city due to work and it had developed so much. Thanks for bringing that memory back by sharing these photos
A most impressive structure! Check out the lady in the light green dress in the first photo. I can’t believe anyone would wear something like that to a mosque.
It’s an eye opener, for sure, but there’s no way to know what her story was. Turkey seems like a really pluralistic country, where people just live and let live.
That’s true. We don’t know if she even planned to enter the mosque. And they have coverings for those they feel are dressed inappropriately. Even though I like her outfit it seems pretty bold for a church, cathedral, temple, synagogue or mosque.
When I visited Vienna with some college pals, one of my buddies wore a t-shirt that said, “Jesus hates me, so I worship Satan,” during a tour of a cathedral. The juxtaposition was so funny. I laughed so hard I thought I was going puke there in one of side chapels. 😂
Nah. He’s a really good guy. If there was a god who really cared what we did, don’t you think he would make examples of his priests for abusing children before punishing a guy with a wacky sense of fashion humor?
Pascal’s wager, huh? I think ethics have advanced enough we can safely discard that concern. Atheists becoming mass murderers doesn’t happen as often as FOX News would have viewers believe.
Goodness. I was a little worried. It’s all about cooperation and constructive dialogue with me. You have a good sense of humor. 😂🤣Thank you for rolling with it.
That is common at Thai temples and palaces. The light green dress the lady in the first photo is wearing looks like it is see-through. Or maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me.

It seems a bit “architecturally crowded.” There’s a lot going on with that structure. But maybe it’s just me, the eternal critic.

It is big. The sheer size accounts for a lot of its notoriety.
