Sticking with the series from ancient Greece, this Sculpture Saturday post introduces the Statue of a Philosopher that is displayed at the Delphi Archeological Museum at Delphi, Greece.

The statue is about life sized and is made of marble. The subject may be Plutarch or Plato. The sculpture dates from the third century BC. The facial details and clothing contrast with the Kouroi of Kleobis and Biton. The sculptor is unknown. Unknown produced a lot of work in those days. 😄
Sculpture Saturday is a challenge hosted by Susan Kelly at No Fixed Plans.

Excellent post

Thank you for saying so! 😊

I guess by staying unknown, the sculptor was able to just stay productive…
Wonderful statue… I wonder why it has no hands…

Ha ha! I think the statue has suffered a little wear and tear.

And I was wondering if there had ever been any deliberate damage; if that statue was in Philly, that would be my first thought…

Delphi was sacked a time or two so there was deliberate damage then probably. It is surprising the Rocky statue has survived so long in Philly. 😊

he doesnt look like he’d be very ‘handy’. If it was Plato, how did he manage to write down his philosophies?

He must have used dictation. 🤣
