This post continues the series on the trip to Thailand in November 2021.  I arrived on the second day of the Test & Go program that allowed tested and vaccinated travelers to enter the country without a seven-day quarantine. After about 12 hours at Two Three Hotel awaiting the results of the arrival Covid test, I moved to the Grand Hyatt Erawan for the remainder of the stay in Bangkok.

Grand Hyatt Erawan Club Lounge

Hyatt Club Lounges are private areas for dinning, working and relaxation reserved for guests (1) who pay a room rate that includes lounge access, (2) are Globalist members (normally 60 nights/year but reduced to 30 nights in 2021 due to Covid) of the World of Hyatt frequent guest program, or (3) who are other members of the loyalty program and are using a Hyatt lounge access award.

The Grand Hyatt Erawan Club Lounge provides morning continental breakfast, all-day tea, coffee and light snacks, and light meals and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the evening. Some Club Lounges like the one in the Hyatt Regency Osaka have a full breakfast buffet.

The difference in cost between a room without lounge access and the same room type that includes lounge access varies but is usually about $30/night. Depending on your personal circumstances, paying for a room with lounge access can be a good deal. One drawback to paying the higher rate is potentially feeling compelled to eat in the lounge rather than at a restaurant each night you pay the higher rate.

One lounge access award is valid for one stay of up to seven consecutive nights. Members of the World of Hyatt program receive two lounge access awards after staying at Hyatt properties for 20 nights in a calendar year and two additional awards plus a free night award for staying 30 nights.

In addition to the space for working or relaxing pictured below, this Club Lounge also offers free use of a conference room for one hour per day.

The lounge has stations for breads, salads and desserts, beverages and entrees.

Soup and several choices of entrees are available.  Portions are small but guests can try as many of the items as they wish as many times as they wish.  I took advantage and filled up in the lounge and usually had no need for dinner afterward.

Staff is available to fill orders or guests are free to serve themselves.

Another nice feature of the Club Lounge is the view of the Bangkok skyline.  The CentralWorld shopping mall and tracks for the Sukhumvit and Silom BTS lines are shown in the photo below.  The hotel is close to stations on both Bangkok Skytrain lines making getting to many popular spots in the city fast, easy and cheap.  Cheap is a relative term as for many Bangkok residents the Skytrain is a luxury.

Not to be overlooked is the service provided by at the lounge check-in desk. Hotel representatives ensure that a guest’s room number is eligible for access to the Club Lounge. They are also available to assist with any other issues or questions guests have about their stay at the hotel and even non-hotel questions. They almost function as concierges.

Final Thoughts

I used a Lounge Access Award on this stay. Together with the $75 room rate that included the wonderful buffet breakfast, this stay was an excellent value. The stay here and in Phuket also brought me close to qualifying for Hyatt Globalist for 2022. The Club Lounge won’t earn a Michelin star but it was more than adequate for my needs.
