This week, Debbie’s One Word Sunday theme is “Egg.” Being Easter, I wish that I had Easter egg photos. Since I do not, this is my submission for the challenge.
In 2017, the guide on a walking safari at Thornhill Safari Lodge near Kruger National Park in South Africa displayed this egg from an abandoned ostrich nest.

According to Wikipedia, ostrich eggs are the largest of all eggs, but are the smallest eggs relative to the size of the adult bird.
See Debbie’s post and other responses to the this week’s theme here. Submit your own egg photo. Happy Easter!
When we visited Oudtshoorn last year (in the Western Cape and also known as the ‘ostrich capital of the world’), we saw many decorated ostrich eggs in the shops. I think your photo fits perfectly in with the theme 😉.

I’d like to see a decorated ostrich egg. They might not be the best for Easer egg hunts though.😊

Most of the decorated ostrich eggs we saw, have images of the Big 5 or a typical African sunset on it … it is actually brilliantly done!

I bet the art is fantastic!

A great choice for the theme – it’s hard to appreciate the size and strength of their eggs

You get the prize for the biggest and most unusual egg. Lucky are the ones that hatch…. Hope you had a great day John! 💖

You’re right Cindy. Few hatch and even fewer reach one year. I hope your week is off to a great start!😊🧡😄

I wonder if anyone decorates ostrich eggs for Easter.

Good question. I don’t think ostrich eggs would be so good for hunts but they would make pretty decorations.

Weird that these eggs are also the smallest compared to the bird.

I know what you mean. Ostriches have it tough. Very few reach adulthood.

I of course knew that ostrich eggs were the largest, but not that they are the smallest relative to the size of the adult bird – interesting!

I didn’t know that fact either. Ostrich nests are on the ground or even underground. That is claimed to be the reason behind the myth that they bury their heads in the sand.
