This arena was the site of home basketball games for my alma mater Shortridge High School and games between many other schools in city and state basketball tournaments. It was featured in Hoosiers, an outstanding film about persevering against seemingly insurmountable challenges presented by sports and life.
this is so awesome John! So impressive! 👏👏👏👏

High schools and uni’s having these stadiums is unheard of in the UK. Could be why were not very good at wining major comps

Hoosiers is one of the better sports films of my generation. “We’re gonna run the Picket Fence at ’em.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU0BebHh5LY

That’s a great clip. The picket fence was unstoppable. Thanks for your thoughts, Pete.

We have seen “Hoosiers” several times and recognized the building. How cool that you went to school there! Thanks for posting!

The scene were the Hickory players measure the basket and the free throw lane is classic. Hoosiers actually understates the atmosphere in big games.

That’s an impressive structure. I’d say it’s larger than most high school teams will ever play in.

The Fieldhouse was built in 1928 and until 1950 was claimed to be the largest basketball arena in the US at any level, high school, college or pro.

I believe the claim.

Wow!!! This is great! I coach at one of the top schools in my state and we are not even close to this magnitude!!! I am sure great memories have been made throughout the years!! Sweet.

You are correct coach. The Fieldhouse has been the site of many great (and some disappointing) memories of high school basketball games for nearly a century. Thanks for your comment.
