Long-time readers know of my acquaintance with Neil Armstrong. Manned flights to the Moon are in the news again as the Artemis 1 mission sits on the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center. If you have any interest in spaceflight, I think you will be fascinated by this video of the most important and impactful 15 minutes in human history. The video shows that successfully landing the first manned mission to another world wasn’t as easy as people thought.
Somewhere out there, Apollo must be wishing Artemis, his twin sister, Godspeed.

Thank you so much for sharing this video, John. It is very interesting and indeed fascinating seeing it from this new perspective.

The video brought back memories of lying on our Naugahyde couch while watching this historic moment! I have a 35mm film that my grandmother took of the TV while they walked on the moon. She was no videographer, but she tried, and of course there is no audio. Thanks for sharing the memories, John!

I have similar memories. You are lucky to have a video of it. In the next couple of years we may be able to see more humans on the Moon.

I hope to see more humans on the moon! You think there’s a Starbucks up there yet?

Those of us who were alive at that time to witness the televised coverage, will never forget what we were doing and who we were with when Apollo Eleven landed and Armstrong took his first steps.

We who saw it then were privileged. I’d like to see people do it again, and maybe even Mars.

It was in the wee hours as I recall. I stayed up for it. This video explains it much better than watching it in 1969.

The video with subtitles and explanatory notes is wonderful. Thanks for your feedback. I think teachers are good judges of these things.
