Matthews, North Carolina is a small community next to the development where I live. Every year, it hosts a street festival over Labor Day weekend as a celebration of the unofficial end of summer. The small festival packs big-time fun with food, rides, games , music, arts & crafts, and knick-knack booths. It is like a mini state fair.
The stage in the little park is used for musical entertainment. Bands representing a variety of genres play throughout the weekend. The festival is small enough that the sound of the bands and performers carries across the entire venue while keeping the decibel level to a pleasant level.
Games, rides, and junk food just like a state fair midway.
Arts & Crafts and nick knacks in and around the community center.
Locals proudly displayed their handiwork.
The stage in the community center was another venue for more musical entertainment.
Spending a couple of hours at the festival enjoying the music, food and people was a great way to wrap up a great summer. I hope others in the northern hemisphere enjoyed the summer and weekend, too. Did you have a good Labor Day weekend?
Beautiful quilts and baskets! A fine local celebration.

There are some talented and dedicated artisans in the community. This festival is a mini version of the state fairs I enjoyed when I lived in Indianapolis.

Attending a street festival sounds like a fun way to end the summer. I just love the strong sense of community in towns like this. It’s a great way to bring people together and have a little fun. My town typically hosts a fall fair the weekend after Labour Day, to celebrate the start of fall. Unfortunately we’ll be away, which is too bad since it hasn’t run in two years because of the pandemic, so I’m sure it’ll be great. There’s always next year!

Street festivals are synonymous with good times. Even a few showers didn’t dampen spirits much. Have a great weekend visiting an awesome Provincial or National Park or maybe spending time a your cabin.

Thanks! We’re heading to Atlantic Canada and naturally plan to visit a few national parks in the area.

If I absolutely have to do a festival, it would be a cosy, local affair like this one. When I first saw the title, I found myself thinking. “Oh, who was Matthew? What happened to him? He must have been really popular for such a celebration to be held in his honour”. I’d be all over the junk food.

My writing is often confusing. I like to fantasize about all of the food that is probably not good for us but oh so tasty.

What a fun way to welcome fall! A fair always makes me think of cooler weather, turning leaves, and travel. Have a great week, John!

Going to the state fair every year is one of my fondest memories from childhood. This little festival is a miniature version of those fairs… and without the hassle and cost of those big fairs.

We have lived in Texas all (mostly in my case) and we have been to the state fair. It’s time to go!

The Texas state fair is renowned as one of the largest (of course) and best.

Oh, candy apples … can’t remember when last I had one of them! I love fairs – we always have one over the December holidays (which is obviously summer then) where the streets that’s leading to the lake, become mini food markets and arts & craft stalls … such a fun time! You just put me in the mood for summer!
