The Jungfraujoch (11,371 ft. or 3,686 m.) is a Swiss saddle or col that connects the Monch and Jungfrau mountains. You can get there by train. Jungfraujoch Station is located inside the Monch. It is the highest train station on the continent and goes by the name “The Top of Europe.”
The Jungfraujoch not only has a train station, there are underground passageways and art galleries carved out of the ice.
That’s where I took the photo for this week’s Sculpture Saturday. The sculptor is unknown.
I hope you enjoyed the ice sculptures.
Sculpture Saturday is a challenge hosted by Susan Kelly at No Fixed Plans.

Great pics 👍🤣👍well done

Hi there, this is my first time visiting your site, and this post is very cool. I’ve visited Switzerland a few times but have never heard of this before. I’ll have to check this out next time I visit. Thank you for posting!

Thanks for dropping by and taking a look at the blog Nicolette. The Jungfraujoch is a wonderful place to see the next time you are in Switzerland. It is easy to get to by train.

What a cool experience! I love the way the light reflects off the ice. Looks magical.

The transparency of the ice makes the whole place look strange.

The funny thing is you won’t find penguins and igloos together naturally. They are southern hemisphere birds and igloos are made by the peoples of the extreme north.

So in other Words, those who did not do Their homework, did made the igloos and then put them together with Penguins?😅

cool ice sculptures, but it seems a bit claustrophobic…

It looks that way. But it was such a “cool” experience I didn’t feel claustrophobia.

I’d be taking a few deep breaths while walking through…

I had an MRI a few years ago. That made me feel very claustrophobic. I was fine here.

I’m not a fan of MRIs either… good to know that this was better than that 🙂

It looks very (very) cold! I’m glad I’m sitting in front of a fire right now 😉. But I still like your photo’s … it’s a world I don’t know!

I’m sure it can be terribly cold there at times. Outside, the sun on the snowfields made it seem very warm. Some (not me) were walking around in T-shirts.

What are the approximate heights of the penguins? They look like miniatures.

The size is hard to tell from the photo. The sculptures are a couple of feet tall, about life size for most penguins. Interestingly, the artist put an igloo in the scene, and penguins are southern hemisphere birds while people who make igloos live in the far north.

Wow, they’re much larger than I imagined. I was going to mention the penguin igloo mismatch, but I chalk that up to “artistic license”.

Artists get a lot of leeway. The scene certainly looks good.

This probably doesn’t need to be stated, but you seem much more widely travelled than I. That noted, the Jungfrau is one of the few adventurous travel destinations where we’ve both visited. I was in my early teens when I was there, but I have fond memories of the trip. I was white knuckled on the trolley ride up the mountain. (Not a fan of heights.) I met some friendly Alpine climbers, who introduced me to Ricola, because of a bad cough I had at the time.

The Jungfraujoch is one of your many outstanding travel experiences if I remember correctly. 😄

True, I have traveled through much of Europe, probably more than the average person. And I have been all over the U.S. and Canada. But, I’ve never been to Mexico nor any other continents, a source of disappointment for me.

Mexico and Central and South America are great places to visit especially if you speak any Spanish.

That’s what I’ve heard. Alas, I haven’t made traveling a priority in my adulthood. Most of my traveling happened before I turned twenty-five.

I’m just the opposite. Most of my travel has been in the last 20 years. I appreciate your following my blog and adding your thoughts.
