This is the first time I’ve joined the weekly Lens Artists Challenge. This week the subject is “shades and shadows.” I’m using photos from a sightseeing flight in the Alaska Range in May 2021 and a photo from a 2014 trip to the summit of Mauna Kea volcano on the big island of Hawaii.
Shades
Shadows
This was a fun challenge. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for upcoming ones.
It looks like only the featured image is showing in Reader. WP has no clue. If you see no images, please visit the site. Thanks.
Thank you for your awesome and wonderful pictures. I pray everyone could travel like that to enjoy the wonders of Earth. It’s so beautiful yet it was probably more awe-inspiring seeing the Earth while standing on the Moon as Neil Armstrong did and Edwin Aldrin.

They say that viewing the Earth from space is transformational. They call it the Overview Effect.

i seen the Earth in photographs the astronaughts took, its view makes ya think how along planet Earth is and maybe how much we all need to take care of the Earth we have. Its a humbeling photo.

Great point! The way viewing Earth from space changes one’s perspective on those things is called the “overview effect.”

Thanks! I’ve been to Africa a few times but would like to go back in the not too distant future. More to West and
central Africa next time.

Great photos. Welcome. I sat right seat on a Denali fly-by many years ago with Rust’s Flying Service, possible the Cessna 206 or similar. Beautiful flight. We landed on a mountain lake for lunch. Great experience.

You will have to make Alaska a stop on your way to some new countries. 😊

Great shots! The one with the circular rainbows is amazing!
I had and still have the same problem with WP Reader, it affects my posts occasionally and totally randomly. Worse is that they don’t seem to get it fixed, regardless of my endless complaints.

The shadow in the circular rainbows was a real treat.
Your posts are always so well done. You put a lot of effort into them. It is a shame WP can’t get it right.

Absolutely, it is one of a kind picture!!
Thank you so much John! I really enjoy all the creative process behind each post. It really takes time and effort but it´s totally worth it! The good thing is that posts show correctly in the blog, so it´s not a major issue.

I was lucky Blanca. Just don’t ask for the scientific explanation.😄 I didn’t even notice the reflection of the terrain on my shades. It would have been cool to see Denali reflected in the sunglasses. Your comments are always much appreciated. 😊

all of the images showed up for me in the WP Reader..
I’ve been to Mauna Kea, and I can understand why people bring parkas!
cool photos, especially the rainbow circle…

I knew I was going to try to go to the Mauna Kea summit, but there is no way I’m packing a parka for a trip to Hawaii. My guess is the people were on a tour that supplied outerwear for seeing the summit.

I’m sure that’s the case. And I packed the same way as you when we went to Hawaii…

I love the shadow of the plane over the water, and the rainbow circle. Amazing!

The shadow on the water had me on the lookout for other plane shadows. Those circular rainbows were a big surprise..

It was fun to join. 😊 I’ve seen posts for this challenge but don’t know how it works. Is there one host or does hosting rotate among several bloggers?
LikeLiked by 1 person
It rotates between four hosts, and occasionally a guest host too. The best explanation and guide is on Amy’s blog: https://shareandconnect.wordpress.com/lens-artists-photo-challenge/
The host always flags up near the end of their post who’ll be hosting the following week. Next week should be Amy. Unlike some challenges they don’t announce the theme in advance so I always have a bit of a scramble to hunt down appropriate images and write a commentary. My LAC responses usually get posted on a Sunday or Monday for that reason!

The ringed shadow reminds me of the ring around the Moon on Full Moon misty nights.

It is the same refraction process I think. If you take a long exposure photo of a ring around the moon, you might see rainbow colors.

💜 Bit Off Topic My Brother, My Friend; why do Pilots wear “shades” and what is the THINKING!!! about how Aircraft ARE Named and Numbered e.g. ‘Boeing 747’, ‘A380’, ‘B52’ et al, it’s ALWAYS!! Puzzled Me and I THINK!!! YOU!!! Know The Answers 🤔 ?

Shades are helpful since a lot of flying is above the clouds. There is no standardized way to name aircraft models. My pet peeve is most airlines don’t name their planes. Ships have names. It is only fair that airplanes have names, too.

💜 Thank YOU!!! of course that makes sense because even here on the ground many of Us Wear “shades” when skies are clear even in extreme cold weather conditions like skiing; so I guess the “naming” conventions must be internal to the manufacturer, and, I Agree with “naming…airplanes”…sadly the only “name” that immediately comes to My Mind is ‘Enola Gay’ a military plane; so I guess that civilians aren’t really interested in naming planes with a few exceptions like ‘The Spirit of Australia’ and ‘Airforce One’ which is primarily Civilian carrying The US President, Commander-in-Chief and Both Their Military and Civilian Charges

Don’t ask me for an intelligent explanation for the circular rainbows. It is a rare but well-known phenomenon.
