Getting From Delta JFK Terminal 4 to JFK Terminal 1

I accepted the advice of the rep at the T4 SkyClub and took the shuttle from T4 to T2 and walked to T1.   The whole trip took only 10 minutes and the weather was good for the three-minute walk from T2 to T1.

Check In with China Eastern Airlines

I had my boarding pass for the China Eastern flight and went to the security line.  The TSA guard would not let me enter the line because the boarding pass was issued by Delta not China Eastern.

I went to the China Eastern counter and got a new boarding pass.  Then the unexpected happened.

China Eastern Escorted Me Through Security

Not only did the agent provide a new boarding pass for my business-class seat, he had another agent escort me through security.  It was similar to but even better than the process that CLEAR uses.  We went to the front of the security line to present my boarding pass and ID to the TSA agent.  Then we even bypassed the people waiting to load their things into the x-ray machine.   This service was provided even though I had plenty of time to make the flight if I had gone through the normal security process.

I put my laptop in a bin and and my backpack and carry on bag on the belt and walked through the metal detector.  It took just a couple of minutes.  Without this expedited service, the security line would have taken at least 15 minutes.  I have no idea why the agents provided this service.  Nevertheless it was much appreciated.  I would not expect this service on a routine basis.

Overall Impression

The expedited security process that China Eastern staff provided at JFK was unexpected but incredibly helpful.  Other than using CLEAR on domestic flights, I have never had a personal escort through TSA security.   As it  turned out, this was one of the better experiences with China Eastern on this trip.
